Austin Chefs Are Throwing an Epic South Indian and Malaysian Dinner

An evening of South and Southeast Asian cuisine will be hosted by Austin chefs Deepa Shridhar of the Indian-influenced supper club/newsletter/podcast Sicc Palette and Ava Pendleton of the Malaysian desserts pop-up Austin Kuih Co.

On November 5, the Thali Supper Club will be held at the Training Kitchen, 1901 Matthews Lane in South Austin.

Popiah and fried idli will be served, along with a thali-style meal that includes curries, chutneys, chili oil, dosas, avakkai (South Indian-style pickles), rice, and other foods.

Over the summer, they collaborated in the kitchen at one of Shridhar's exclusive supper clubs. For quite some time, Shridhar has prepared her entertaining brand of South Asian-Texas cuisine in a variety of ways.

Since Shridhar is South Indian and Pendleton is Malaysian, they chose to collaborate in order to investigate the overlaps in flavors, ingredients, and methods between their two cultures.

They are working along with Training Kitchen, a nonprofit organization, to support low-income families in enrolling in educational programs and growing food for El Buen Samaritano's food pantry.

Tickets cost $150 each. From 5:30 to 5:45 p.m., there is an optional farm trip; dinner is served at 6. In 2023, the two intend to host events that highlight culinary partnerships.
